The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Income Tax Department's PAN 2.0 project at a cost of Rs 1,435 crore. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed about this decision. According to the statement, Permanent Account Number (PAN) with QR code will be upgraded for free. That is, the cards will be upgraded without changing the existing PAN number and no charge will be taken for this.The project enables technology driven transformation of taxpayers registration services. It aims at ease of access with improved quality and quick delivery of service.
